Color Analysis - Graphic Design

My creative color wheel.

For this blog post, I'll review my color analyses of the two shower gel brands I researched, and include my observations and thoughts of both.

Brand 1: Axe

As I was scrolling through brands to use, this one popped out at me. It used an extensive use of cool and darker colors, such as blue, gray, and black.  The bottle also stood out because of its complex shape:  The cap includes multiple triangular-shaped indentions, and includes both gray and black.  The main color for the bottle is glittery-blue, which also helps it stand out.
The bottle is slightly rounded, with multiple indentions on both sides.  The area of emphasis is the middle, where the Axe logo is located, surrounded by a large, black "X" and streams of white and silver around the edge.  It almost reminded me of an explosion.  I believe this brand is aimed more for men.

Brand 2: Vitabath

This brand is almost the exact opposite of  Axe.  The bottle encompasses a much simpler, traditional design, and seems much more quiet and calming than the Axe.  The lid is black with a touch of silver beneath, and the entire bottle is shiny and reflective.  The lighter shade of green seems more of a warm color, however, if it was any darker, I would probably judge it as a cool color.

The words on the bottle are all black, just like the cap, and the "vitabath" logo on the left side seems to flow, as well as the vines that seem to be making their way up the right side.  The words stand out more than the vines, which seem to be behind the lettering.  I think the target audience for this brand is more towards women.

Color Psychology

If I had seen these two brands in a store before this class, I probably would have just glanced at them and moved on.  However, after learning more about color and the huge impact it makes, I'll pay more attention to each brand's design, overall shape, and color of the bottle.  Companies purposely design their products to target a specific audience, and many people don't realize it.  Now, however, I'll be able to make sense out of these different brands and styles and realize why each one was made that way.
