"Creative Anarchy at Its Very Best" by Denise Bosler, art by Lasse Skarbövik. |
Our latest topic of discussion, an article titled "Creative Anarchy at Its Very Best," opened up some points of discussion for our class. I think the overall point that author Denise Bosler is trying to make is that it's okay to break rules - however, in order to, there is criteria you have to meet in order to make sure that breaking rules is the right thing to do for that specific project or situation. For a graphic designer, this article hits home and I think that they would have many personal connections to this article - heck, I've only just immersed myself into the world of graphic design, and I had multiple personal connections in this article.
We were instructed to read through the article, note personal connections, find words that we didn't know, and find the guarantees of our very own e-Comm program. I found a few different personal connections. For example, the article claimed that "design communicates by resonating with an audience," something I've been told and something that I agree with. Later in the article, I starred the phrase "you have to learn the rules before you break them." That's something I've been told and I realize that I still have a lot to learn before I can break the rules in Graphic Design. We also found all five e-Comm guarantees as a class, listing them out and realizing that some points Bosler makes in this discussion can overlap between more than one guarantee.
I think this article is very reflective of what a Graphic Designer should and should not do - Bosler adds several examples to support their main points that she is trying to prove to the audience. Overall, I thought Bosler did a fine job of explaining exactly what she was feeling and thinking. I hope this article will bring out the "creative anarchist" in me.
